The project involved structural solutions designed to implement the architectural concept by the OMA bureau. bureau. The concept involves the transformation of the facility following a strategy:
1. Radical Transformation.
2. Preservation.
3. Easy Transformation.
Work was performed to implement the architectural concept through structural solutions.

OMA

In the Easy Transformation zone, rooms with new functionality are placed; the structural solutions used here provide for increased spans and the arrangement of double-height spaces with local reinforcement and partial replacement of existing structures.
In the Radical Transformation zone, office and restoration rooms are placed. The structural solution for this zone involves the use of large-span (up to 18 meters) structures using post-tensioned rope reinforcement systems.
In the Preservation zone, the existing load-bearing structures are preserved, with only spot repairs and structural element restoration performed.
The main message of the New Tretyakov Gallery reconstruction concept is to preserve as much of the original architectural image as possible; the Soviet modernist structure was created by Yuriy Sheverdyaev and Nikolay Sukoyan. At the same time, the New Tretyakov Gallery’s functional enhancement will allow the building to remain a modern, in-demand cultural and education space for many years to come.
